I also heard rave reviews about the Pearl Reference series being unbelieveable also. Never hear/seen one yet...fairly new line. I think you'll find that the high-end Pacific drums run significantly more than the other drumsets you've listed. A set of LX Pacifics will cost about $1200 in stores whereas the other drums you mention all go for less than $900. I would suggest Pacific's CX line is a more appropriate equivalent of ...

I'd leave them green. Not only are you taking a risk by restaining, you're potentially lowering the resale value. Plus, the green isn't bad at all.

I'll play anything that sounds good, but I've got a prejudice against Zildjian. I think they're shite in the same way Remo is shite: both companies are a quality control nightmare. I've got a Zildjian cymbal on my kit, and I'd buy one if it really impressed me, but the thing is, not many of them do....
