Had it, then lost it....

Postby 55panhd » April 1st, 2014, 9:58am

Well it looks like another WNY music club has been lost. The new owner of the Dockside on Sweeney Street on the canal in NT has decided to pull the plug on it's weekend live music after just 3 weekends. No reasons were given, but the whole summer was booked and now all these bands loose this venue that has been a mainstay for over 10 years! Please remember this when you are looking for a place to eat and SUPPORT the CLUBS that support live music! :-?

Are they getting a DJ or one of those streaming jukebox things?

I don't see how the smaller bars can afford bands. I see alot of bands in the summer months...going out when its 10 degrees to see a band doesn't interest me at all anymore. Summer time...outside...cold beer....good or shitty band...nice afternoon.

I hang at the Sunset grill alot....that I get. Even if you pay the band well....there's still a shitload of people there drinking and buying food all day. Would they still be there if there were no band...maybe. It's the small bars I go to in my area...figure at bare bones...they have to pay the band at least $200-300 for an afternoon or evening. There's only 25 people there....wouldn't they take a loss when all is said and done.

We get those horrid acoustic guy/girl duos by us all summer on patio decks....nothing is worse than that torture. Nothing.

Shit a couple of the rugby guys show up to our gig and the bar is set all night.

But I agree that a lot of places that have live music would have most of the same crowd regardless of the band. Especially when there main business is fish fries and terrible draft beer.

I read in the paper that they brought in a new chef and are trying to become a more upscale restaurant.

Nothing on Sweeny Street will ever be upscale.
