Announcing, July Friendraiser & Slyfest Preview Jam at the Sportsmens!
It’s Friendraiser time again, folks!
Bring your brain to the Sportsmens Tavern, 326 Amherst St, on Wednesday, July 6th, 5:30pm, for another Friendraiser, in which we’ll welcome all feedback and ideas for The Good Neighborhood and in general, while introducing some of the results of action taken from past Friendraisers and inviting individuals to share and connect their respective causes and passions. The second annual Slyfest Preview Jam will follow at 7pm ($3 donation to the Slyboots School of Music & Art for those who arrive at or after 7pm), in which jam gurus On the Sly will welcome members of the dozens of bands performing at their August festival for an ensemble performance that will serve to raise funds for the downtown Buffalo school they are currently building.
The Sportsmens is once again offering an open bar for the first hour (5:30-6:30) as we open the floor to another spirited discussion of the many ways in which we can bring our community together for the greater good. Our Friendraisers are all about connecting people and ideas, and included in this month’s gathering will be –
- The foundation is set – help us build our store! An introduction of the leader of our new store/merchandise initiative. We will share the products we’re preparing – some inspired by ideas from past Friendraiser feedback – and open the discussion and product catalogs to all.
- Participation in Buffalo Unscripted. Our peppy pals from the National Trust for Historic Preservation – whom we met and got drunk on Buffalove when they attended our last Friendraiser as part of the location search for their upcoming filming of Buffalo Unscripted – have asked us to help engage the city in their upcoming return for a week of filming across the city. We’ll have posters, plots, and reveal plans for our finale jam with them on July 23rd.
Buffalo First is all over Buffalo Unscripted
- Future event announcements. We got a couple whoppers that we can’t wait to share!
- Good Neighbors Helping Haiti. The feedback has been constant and mostly encouraging from our documentation of the Buffalo-based Hope for Tomorrow Foundation’s recent medical aid trip to Haiti. We will discuss ways to stay engaged and introduce Good Neighbors who are helping in other ways – some of whom will be joining us from out of town – with a goal of laying the foundation for a future return to Haiti to continue our support.
Asakivle: Buffalo Friends of Haiti co-founder Franck Desire, seen here being interviewed by the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation in Port-au-Prince, will be at the center of our future efforts to help his homeland
These will all be good fun, but we wish not to hog the spotlight – sharing is caring, as pre-school teachers say, and we look forward to learning more about the endeavors and ideas of others. Bring your brain!
