jazz bass lessons...

Postby busle2 » January 13th, 2014, 12:49pm

I've been messing around with my bass an awful lot lately, and have sort of fallen in love with the instrument. I'm getting an okay technique down, but I'll be looking to get some proper instruction, probably starting at some point in the spring, since I haven't really done much on the theory side of things, and have a lot of catching up to do. who's a good (great) dude/non-dude to learn bass from? I'm in the south Buffalo, West Seneca area, so somewhere thereabouts would be preferable, but I'd be willing to drive a bit for the right teacher.

suggestions?

A lot of that depends on whether or not you read bass clef.

I don't. I've always played guitar by ear, and have only a very fundamental understanding of theory so far. I know enough to figure most of that stuff out, but I'm nowhere near fluent in it.

Kevin Helfrich at the Guitar Factory in West Seneca. If you want to learn theory, functionality, and a way of analyzing songs that will help you no matter what type of music you play. ( Remember, the II shall always precede the virtually bulletproof V7)
